Which Android settings should I check before installing the APK?
Before installing our APK, you should first check your device’s security and management settings. Since Android 8, Android no longer allows installations from unknown sources as a device-wide setting. Instead, permission is always granted for the specific app source. So the first thing that matters is which app you are opening the APK from—for example Chrome, Firefox, or your file manager—and whether that exact source is allowed to install apps.
After that, check whether Google Play Protect or Advanced Protection is actively interfering. Play Protect checks apps during installation and can warn you, disable apps, remove them automatically, or block installation. Advanced Protection is even stricter and generally blocks installations from unknown sources. If your device also has a work profile or is managed by a company, administrators can additionally block installations outside Google Play—depending on the policy, either only in the work profile or across the entire device.
We also recommend checking whether an older version of the same app is already on the device or whether it is installed in Samsung Secure Folder. Older versions or parallel installations often cause package conflicts. In short, before installing the APK, you should always check the source, Play Protect, Advanced Protection, any device management, and any existing older versions.
