What is the difference between the APK version and the Google Play version?
Both versions come from us, but they are distributed and updated differently. You install and update the Google Play version through Google Play. You download the APK version directly from our website or server and install it manually. On Android 8 and later, you must allow the relevant source before you can install it.
The APKs we provide directly are not automatically dangerous or illegal; what matters is always the source. When you download directly from us, you receive an unmodified APK straight from the developer. Depending on the app, the direct-download version may offer additional features, more flexibility outside Play Store restrictions, MY.PROTECTSTAR integration, and a built-in updater. Updates are also often available earlier than in the Play Store.
The Google Play version, by contrast, is more convenient for many users because installation and updates run directly through the Play Store. On devices where unknown sources are blocked, it is therefore often the easier option.
