Does Google Play Protect or Advanced Protection block the installation?

Yes, it can. Google Play Protect checks apps during installation and scans your device regularly. If Google classifies an app as risky, Play Protect may warn you, disable the app, remove it automatically, or block the installation. For apps from sources such as browsers or messaging apps, Play Protect also performs additional targeted checks against fraud and malware.

Advanced Protection is even stricter. If “Device protection” is enabled on your device, Play Protect cannot be turned off. According to Google, Advanced Protection also blocks the installation of apps from unknown sources, as well as updates for apps that were originally installed from unknown sources.

If you have already turned off Advanced Protection and the installation still does not work, a restart may be required. Google also notes that some protection features may remain active if your Google Account’s Account Protection is also enabled.
