Do Google Play Protect or Advanced Protection block installation?

Yes, that can happen. Google Play Protect checks apps during installation and continues scanning the device regularly afterward. Google may show a warning, disable an app, or in certain cases remove it automatically. Play Protect also checks apps from sources outside Google Play. Google generally recommends leaving Play Protect enabled.

Advanced Protection is even stricter. According to Google, it blocks the installation of apps from unknown sources and also blocks updates for apps that were originally installed from unknown sources. If you just disabled Advanced Protection or removed a Google account protected by it, Google says it can take up to 24 hours for these protective mechanisms to fully relax. If you simply want the easiest installation path, the Google Play version is usually the easier option in such cases.
