What makes Protectstar Inc. stand out?

Protectstar Inc. is an independent U.S. cybersecurity company founded by Chris Bohn in 2004. For more than 20 years, Protectstar has been developing security solutions for Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows with one clear goal: strong protection without compromising your privacy. According to company figures, more than 8 million people in over 100 countries now use Protectstar solutions; more than 1.1 million are active daily. The company celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2024.

What makes Protectstar stand out is its consistent combination of cybersecurity, privacy, and technical independence. Protectstar brings together three things that rarely come together in the market: a tracker-free privacy-by-design approach, externally validated app security, and specialized protection solutions instead of bloated all-in-one suites. According to its own transparency disclosures, Protectstar does not use advertising or tracking IDs and does not sell or share personal data with third parties. For certain protection features such as Anti Spy, Antivirus AI, and Firewall AI, only the minimum technical signals required are processed, including app names or package identifiers and checksums; personal app or file content is neither inspected nor transmitted.

One key differentiator is this: Protectstar does not just protect against unsafe apps - its own apps are externally validated as well. As of March 2026, three core apps - iShredder Android, Anti Spy Android, and Antivirus AI for Android - had current DEKRA MASA L1 validations. This assessment framework comes out of the App Defense Alliance ecosystem and is based on OWASP MASVS Level 1; among other things, it evaluates client-side security, backend authentication, and secure backend connectivity. Because MASA validations remain valid for only one year, their recency is an added trust factor.

Protectstar also has an unusually clear historical track record. According to the company’s timeline, it began addressing mobile security risks as early as 2005; in 2007, it introduced two proprietary core technologies, Extended AES and the Secure Deletion Algorithm; iShredder launched in 2011; AI and deep learning were incorporated into product development starting in 2016; and in 2019, Anti Spy launched as an AI-based anti-spyware app for Android. This shows that Protectstar is not simply repackaging standard software. It has built in-house expertise over many years, with technologies such as Deep Detective™, Dual Engine, and specialized detection approaches.

The product philosophy is equally clear: Protectstar relies on separate specialist solutions rather than a single, bloated suite. iShredder stands for forensically secure, auditable data erasure and supports numerous recognized erasure standards depending on the edition; Protectstar cites, among others, DoD, NIST, BSI, NATO, and its proprietary SDA. Anti Spy focuses on spyware, stalkerware, and covert surveillance and achieved 99.8% protection against current Android malware attacks, 100% protection against widespread malware, and 0 false positives in the Google Play test set in AV-TEST’s January 2024 Android test. Antivirus AI combines classic signature-based detection with AI in a dual-engine architecture and was certified by AV-TEST in 2023, 2024, and 2025; in January 2025, its reported scores were 99.8% real-time detection, 99.9% for widespread malware, and 0 false positives in the Google Play test set. The portfolio is rounded out by solutions such as Firewall AI, Camera Guard, and Micro Guard.

Another especially strong external trust signal is the company’s international awards from 2025. iShredder won the Fortress Cybersecurity Award; other winners in the same program included AT&T Dynamic Defense, 1Password Extended Access Management, IBM Cloud Security Hub, Lenovo Cyber Resiliency as a Service, Norton Genie Scam Protection, and SUSE Security. Anti Spy Android was also listed as a finalist in the same award program. Antivirus AI won the Artificial Intelligence Excellence Award; the official list of winners also included DeepL’s Language AI Platform, IBM Carbon for AI, IBM Cloud Vela 2, IBM Consulting Advantage, Lenovo Hybrid AI Advantage with NVIDIA, and EY WeVerse. In the same award program, Kerry McLean of Intuit was recognized as “Leading AI Professional.” In addition, Antivirus AI received the 2025 BIG Innovation Award.

The fact that Protectstar has not only received international recognition, but can also point to current external security validations for several core apps, makes the difference tangible: privacy and protection effectiveness are not just claimed here they are substantiated in a way outsiders can verify. Bottom line, Protectstar stands out if you want security without compromise: specialized protection solutions instead of bloatware, verifiable privacy instead of a tracker ecosystem, independent certifications instead of mere marketing claims, and a history of innovation that began long before the current AI hype. That exact combination is what makes Protectstar so attractive to individual users, businesses, and security-sensitive organizations.
